What is the best way to deliver audio for Drive-In Cinema

Drive-In Cinema Audio

Arranging an audio solution for Drive-In Cinema is much easier now than it used to be. Traditionally, when Drive-In Cinemas were first introduced audio would be transmitted on FM to the cars radio. The eager audience would tune their radios to the given frequency and listen through the car’s speakers.

Procuring an FM license can prove difficult though; it is timely, complicated & costly. It is common that event organisers don’t get license approval until the date of their event. This is extremely risky as this is a key element of any Drive-In Event. Sadly, for event organisers this could be a tedious (and costly) solution and for attendees it could also prove problematic. Often using car radios can lead to a flat battery when going to exit the Drive-In or, for the cautious ones who left their ignitions turned on, it would be costly on fuel, bad for the environment and frustrating for those who didn’t ‘fuel-up’ before the event.

Flash forward to 2020, Drive-In Cinemas are on the rise and the demand is set to grow exponentially due to the global social distancing enforcement currently in place.

For event organisers and their audiences we can help provide an easy Drive-In Cinema audio solution that eliminates stressful licensing and troublesome car issues.

We can supply you with a complete Drive-In Cinema audio package that offers each car the ability to pick up the film's audio without being confronted with the aformentioned problems and it is license free and can be installed at a moments notice.

Here’s how we do it:

Audio Transmitter

A key component to the system. The transmitter will broadcast your film's audio at a distance of up to 300m (depending on the type of transmitter you select). This means you can create Drive-In cinema events of various scales- both spacially and by number of attendes.

Setting up the transmitter is easy; it plugs straight into the device that you're using to play the movie on using a phono / RCA or 3.5mm jack. If you’re mixing the film from a sound desk, your transmitter can plug straight into your audio output.

Audio Receivers

No bigger than your average wallet, the audio receivers pick up the audio being broadcasted from the transmitter wirelessly via radio waves. These can be distributed at the event to each car and only one per vehicle is required.

To set up the audio receiver, simply switch them on and plug in the speaker using the 3.5mm jack.

Portable speakers

Just like any portable speaker you used in the past. Distribute these one per car with the audio receivers.

The portable speaker plugs directly into the audio receiver via 3.5mm jack. All you have to do is turn it on, adjust your volume and your audience are all set for your Drive-In Cinema Experience.

3.5mm Jack Cable

These are used to connect your receivers to the speakers, an essential but underrated part of the system.
