Team SDK were lucky enough to be invited along to a documentary film screening about Glastonbury at Southampton's Solent University. Glastonbury festival works closely with Solent University to enable film, media and technology students to gain first hand experience on the ground at the world's most famous festival.
A team of talented students produced a movie capturing their experience of working backstage at the 2014 festival. We went along to the University's Cinema theatre to enjoy the premiere, along with the many familiar faces we've met and worked alongside at the Silver Hayes area of this epic festival.
It felt distinctly odd seeing everybody so out of context, in Southampton City Centre on a February afternoon. Normally we come together once a year, working in the sunshine like a family of ants putting on a giant circus.
Since 2010 Silent Disco King have been delighted to be a part of the legendary Glastonbury Festival, for many of our team, going along just once is a bucket list tick, and we have an annual dance off to see who gets to go. Our unique view of the festival is primarily from the windows of our Headphone Distribution office, just next to the Sonic stage within Silver Hayes.
We had to shut the office early so everybody could go along and see a different perspective of Glastonbury, and we were glad we did. The students had done a really top notch job, capturing so much from so many different angles.
It was hard not to feel a bit emotional hearing some of the journeys artists and performers had made across the globe to be part of Glastonbury, and seeing the front of house results from all the passion and effort that goes in behind the scenes. The saddest part though was when the film ended and the lights went up, suddenly realising that we wouldn't be back on site at Glastonbury for another 4 months :(
Thanks for sharing Solent. See you in June!
