What is a Drive-In Gig?
Drive-In Gig

You’ve heard of Drive-In Cinema’s, right? Well a new type of event is heading its way to you  very soon; a Drive-In Gig!

Event organisers have been tackling tough times recently, which has set their minds to creative overdrive, trying to envisage ways of delivering their events during a time when their audiences’ welfare is at stake. As a result, many event professionals are turning to Drive-In Cinemas because they are a great way of keeping the audience safe whilst instilling social distancing methods.

A Drive-In Gig follows the same principal and process as a Drive-In Cinema, the only real difference is that instead of pulling up your car to a giant screen, you’re pulling up to a stage. The audience can then sit back, relax within the comforts and safety of their own cars and enjoy presence of watching the acts live on stage – without the mosh pit.

A Danish Singer hit the headlines back in May for being one of the first artists to play a Drive-In Gig to 2,000 people in the 500-car event held in Aarhus, Denmark. Despite it being a bizarre experience, it was a huge success and was dubbed the ‘Coronavirus-proof’ show.

Not long after, event producers Sound Level Events hosted the UK’s first Drive-In Gig at Hampshire’s Royal Victoria Country Park. Three local bands played to a platoon of 80 cars and a crowd of 300 people.

The Drive-In Gig experience is a perfect way to effectively manage social distancing whilst still providing a unique and valuable experience to all the audiences who are missing out on seeing their favourite artists at festivals and gigs for the rest of the year.

How do you deliver audio at a Drive-In Gig?

Although there is a full concert standard PA system at the Sound Level Events Shows,
another option would be to provide each car with sound, all you’ll need is a transmitter to broadcast the audio, and audio receivers/ speakers in each car (which would be allocated to each vehicle on arrival).

Our in-car audio solutions for Drive-In Cinema can also be used as audio solutions for Drive-In gigs, ensuring that all attendees do not miss a moment from the event.

It’s an innovative and easy way for sound engineers to deliver the band/ artists audio to each car.

What’s needed:

  1. A FM transmitter will need to be plugged into the master audio output of the sound mixer.
  2. A FM audio receiver plugged into a portable speaker distributed to each car on arrival.

The audio from the stage can then be played in each car at the event.

At Sound Level Events Shows, audiences were able to get out of their cars and stand or sit
on the left of each vehicle. The security of each car acting as a protective bubble is a great way for those of you who have been stuck at home, to get out, unwind and source a well deserved experience in the form of live entertainment.
